Just as well we were without a car really, as an 8km canal surrounds the main city. Its medieval aquatic based infrastructure and cobbled street layout means it has a very compact nature. This is just perfect for walking and ambling. It kept us fit though, wandering and wondering. However, the local inhabitants were cheating using bicycles of which there was a plethora. Predominantly flat, you are never far away from culture or indulgence. Providing there is a bridge over the canal you are standing next to. Peaceful monastic compounds, museums, towers, parks, cafes. Photogenic it certainly is. North, south, east or west, there is always something to investigate.
Here is what we found.
